Keeping it simple this week. This any season drink is best introduced when the weather's getting colder. Here we have it, the Old Fashioned.
Calling as ever for whiskey. Just stick with something peated, a little smoke. An even keeled spirit does well for this taste focused drink.
Break up the madness. The fizz cuts through the alcohol and heightens the taste while bubbles make for a refreshing sensation.
A little sweet for the soul. This is, after all, a strong jawed cocktail.
Sugar and bitters into the neat glass (cherry or orange peel as well if you like), and beat them into a paste. Add the whiskey, a spit of club soda, and ice to stir and enjoy.
2 parts rye (whiskey)
1 part club soda
sugar cube (discretionary)
